Loh Collection museum wins FIA Heritage Cup

At the annual awards gala, held in Baku, the FIA has awarded the recently opened Nationales Automuseum The Loh Collection in Germany with the Heritage Cup. Just four months since it first opened its doors, the museum has already attracted over 30,000 visitors.

It wasn’t just Max Verstappen who went to collect a trophy at the FIA’s award gala, where all the season’s champions are honoured. Since 2010, FIA members have presented the FIA Founding Member’s Club Heritage Cup, which s awarded to an initiative or organisation that promotes automotive history. Previous winners include the Dutch Louwman Museum, Mille Migla and the Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

Magnificent setting

German industrialist Friedhelm Loh is making his mark on the European classic car scene by opening up his car (and racing car) collection to the public. In a no-expenses-spared approach, The Loh Collection has built up magnificent premises in an old industrial setting. With an old movie theatre, two restaurants and a lot of attention for historic documentation and parts like engines or designer’s scale models, you get a complete picture. Next to that, there are research and educational programs, with university support.

Le Mans expo

The Loh Collection is based in Dietzhölztal, around an hour and a half’s drive east of Cologne. The museum has already attracted over 30,000 visitors since it opened for the public in July. You can expect to see around 150 cars, and there will be different exposition themes per year. At the moment, the Loh Collection features a Le Mans expo as well, coinciding with this year’s centenary of the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Friedhelm Loh said: “This is a very special award for us. It demonstrates that we have created something unique with our work.”
