Visitors record for Interclassics Maastricht… without Verstappen

With 35.408 visitors, Interclassics established a new visitors record at its Maastricht show. Impressive, as Interclassics could not count on a Verstappen effect this year.

Last year, Interclassics exhibited one of Max Verstappen’s cars, which lured a new crowd to the classic car show. That was not the case, this year’s MECC halls in Maastricht, the Netherlands were filled with the regular classics and youngtimers, and featured an exhibition centred around 120 Ford Performance.

That said, the Ford exhibition was impressive, with cars on loan from Ford of Europe’s heritage centre in Cologne. Ex-Eggenberger Sierra RS500 Cosworth? Check. Juha Kankkunen Escort WRC? Check. And thanks to other private collectors, the line-up grew even more interesting with a JPS-liveried Roush Ford Mustang (ex-Trans-Am), a group A Mustang, and two Ford Cosworth-powered Formula 1s.

Furthermore, double Indy 500-winner Arie Luyendyk and former Porsche Supercup and DTM driver Jeroen Bleekemolen were on hand for meet and greets. With ever more international exhibitors and some well-executed themes (Le Mans in Brussels and Ford in Maastricht), the Interclassics organisers are putting their name firmly on the international classic show circuit.
