Tazio 12 has Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato, Marcus Grönholm, A.J. Foyt, DTM on the Nordschleife,…

Forgive us for our silence in August; we were busy. But now, we are ready to once more show you the fruit of our labour. Tazio 12 is ready and will be available for shipping from September 30th.

Inside is once more a finely curated selection of slow stories on fast cars.

Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato

First of all, we have an in-depth look at the Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato, the UK’s answer to the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta. When Aston Martin saw their own initiative to produce a shortened, lightened DB4 racer – the DB4GT – come up short, they turned to Zagato for an even lighter, more aerodynamically efficient version. The resulting Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato is one of the world’s most exclusive GT racing cars. Only 19 chassis exist, making the DB4GT Zagato currently the most sought-after Aston Martin.

The Nationales Automuseum – The Loh Collection let us out on the road in their car, chassis 0180. This car – in Moroccan racing colours – carried race number #1 and was lined up first at the start of the 1961 Le Mans 24 Hours. With race number #14 – as depicted by Rafael Varela on our cover – it appeared at the Paris 1000 Km, held at the Monthléry race track with its famous banked turn. Racing alongside the semi-works ‘1VEV’ and ‘2VEV’, 0180 was one of the most remarkable Aston Martin DB4T Zagatos to have raced. And is anything but a trailer queen today, as we found out on the road for ourselves.

Marcus Grönholm

Marcus Grönholm won two world titles and is the third most successful WRC rally driver ever, behind Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier. We look back with the Fin and the highs and lows of his formidable career. “It was mid-way through the Ouninpohja stage (Rally Finland, 2007) that I decided I would stop rallying. I was driving like an idiot, scaring myself.”

A.J. Foyt

In an exclusive excerpt from Art Garner’s new biography on A.J. Foyt – the first of two volumes – we go back to 1977, to the day Foyt wrote history at the Indy 500 by becoming the first quadruple winner.

Skoda 200 RS

You may not know this car, as only three of these were ever built. When Skoda organized an international rally – Rallye Skoda, now Rally Bohemia – in its home town for the first time, 50 years ago, it wanted to put up a strong showing. Eager to put up a fight with the Alpine A110, Skoda created its own rear-engined, rear-wheel drive rival; the 200 RS. For Skoda, this is where the RS story started.

60 Years of Formula Vee in Europe

On a cold September day in Hockenheim, Germany, sixty years ago. Just as Porsche was readying the première of its new 901 model – later, the 911 – factory test driver Herbert Linge was busy on another project: assessing the potential of a new, entry-level single-seater series Ferry Porsche had bought in the US. We recreate the day Porsche kickstarted Formula Vee in Europe.

And much more

We recall the final race of the DTM series on the Nordschleife in 1993, we look at both the Jaguar C-type and Jaguar Classic’s C-type Continuation, and there is the portrait of the first man to crack 200 mph, 250, 260, 270,… Don Garlits (92) helped make drag-racing into the sport it is now.
