So, shall we meet up at Goodwood?

With a programme filled with racing, this weekend’s 79th Member’s Meeting looks like another big Goodwood hit. We are looking forward to see a bunch of Porsche 956s and 962s and some V10-powered F1s in particular. Shall we meet up?

Group C is celebrating its 40 years this year. What better way to celebrate this than to organize a parade with the most successful exponent of the Group C era: the Porsche 956 and its successor, the Porsche 962. The parade is scheduled around sunset on Saturday, so hopefully we will return with some mesmerizing pictures. Both the Porsche museum and collector Henry Peaman will bring some of their finest cars. Le Mans winner Derek Bell and John Watson will be behind the wheel.

Winner six years in a row

It is also 40 years since the Porsche 956 scored its first victory at Le Mans. After the 1982 win, the 956 went on a victory run right up until 1985. And then the Porsche 962 took over, scoring firsts at Le Mans in 1986 and 1987. An incredible record-run. If you want to read more on this, we warmly recommend the interview we had with Klaus Ludwig, Le Mans-winner with the Newman Joest Porsche 956 in 1984 and 1985. You can read all about that in Issue 2.

Screamers

The other highlight will be the celebration of the V10 Formula 1 era. Some 25 cars will be present, all from the late 1980s right up until 2005. The focus is on the screaming naturally aspirated V10 engines, but V8s and V12s will also be present. A parade with some 20 cars is scheduled, with a large selection of McLarens surely the main attraction. McLaren sends Bruno Senna with a 1991 McLaren Honda MP4/6 his famous uncle Ayrton Senna drove. Emanuelle Piro, another former F1 driver, is behind the wheel of a 1989 Minardi M189. In 1989, Pirro drove the second part of the season with Benetton.
