BMW M Race of Legends… with a hint of Procar

Right before the Nürburgring 24 Hours, on May 28th, BMW will let a cast of racing greats battle it out in identical BMW M2 CS Racing cars. Doesn’t that ring a bell somehow?

The race is a celebration of the 50 years of BMW Motorsport. And the unmistakable highlight of Motorsport, is the M1 Procar series. The M1 Procar series was run – partially – on the Saturdays before a Formula 1 Grand Prix, with the five fastest qualifiers in free practice handed a BMW M1 Procar. They were up against a cast of young wolves and old hands, each out to beat the F1 stars. In 1979, Niki Lauda won the M1 Procar series, in 1980 it was Nelson Piquet.

Merzario, Cheever, Soper,…

Right before this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours, BMW is organising the BMW M Race of Legends, set for 30 minutes on the Grand Prix circuit. This time, only old celebrities are welcome. BMW even set an age limit of 50 years.
