Ardennes throw good and bad at Spa Classic

Traditions are there to be upheld. The legendary unpredictable weather gave participants at Peter Auto’s Spa Classic a bit of everything. Have a look at this wonderful starters’ field.

The Peter Auto Series was finally able to go back to the mythical Spa circuit in Belgium. A packed field brought plenty of remarkable cars, including a serious contingent of GT2 Porsche 911s in Endurance Racing Legends.

The Porsche 2-litre Cup – a one and a half hour race – went to Andrew Smith and Oliver Bryant, who held on to an 8-second lead over Mark Sumpter and Andrew Jordan. Xavier Dayraut came third. BTCC-legend Matt Neal’s Porsche did not make it to the finish.

Classic Endurance Racing

In Classic Endurance Racing 1, the race went Alexander Furiani’s way in his 1971 Chevron B19. He had a 46-second lead over Toni Seiler (1969 Lola T70 MkIII B), with Serge Kriknoff (1971 Lola T212) in third. Classis Endurance Racing 2 saw Philippe Scemama and Laurent Fort take the race in their 1981 Lola T600. They preceded Maxime Guenat (1976 Lola T286) and Yves Scemama (1976 TOJ SC304). Oliver Hart and Nicky Pastorelli came in fourth overall and first GT2 in their 1982 Ferrari 512 BBLM.

Endurance Racing Legends

Over to Endurance Racing Legends, where race one went Christian Gläsel’s way in his 2004 MG EX257. He finished a clear 49 seconds in front of Mike Newton’s 2001 Lola-MG EX257. Jake Hill drove the 2001 Panoz LMP 01 to a fine third place. Race 2 saw a repeat performance from Gläsel. This time, Xavier Micheron and Antoine Weil managed to steer their 2003 Riley & Scott MkIII C to second, with Olivier Galant bringing the 1997 Panoz Esperante GTR1 to third.

Group C

Both races in Group C racing went Christophe d’Ansembourg’s way in his Jaguar XJR-14 (1991), with Lecourt/Narac twice finishing second in their Porsche 962 C (1990). In Fifties Legends, Guillaume Peeters triumphed in his 1957 Lotus XI. Sixties Endurance was a matter for Urs Beck and Ralf Kelleners in their AC Cobra 289 (1964), beating Christophe Van Riet and Fred Bouvy in their 1963 AC Cobra.

Touring Cup

Race 1 of the Heritage Touring Cup saw Yves Scemama triumph in the Ford Capri RS 3100 (1973), whereas Maxime Guenat took the honours in race 2 in a 1975 Ford Capri RS 3100. And finally, race one of the Greatest Trophy was Dirk and Leon Ebeling’s in their Bizzarrini 5300 GT (1965). Christian Bouriez took race two in similar machinery.
