We don’t surf… but we would with these fast boards

It’s a most unlikely of combinations, but these retro-themed surfboards British firm Surfing Slicks produce are cool. Subzero cool.

Now, we don’t surf. But with a deep green-tinted BRM surfboard tucked under our arm, we do see us valiantly striding towards the waves at Nazaré, Portugal. Not that we’d be any good, but we would have the best-looking board in the water, wouldn’t we?

James Hunt

The overlap between racing and surfing is not easy to make, but – out of stubbornness we guess – Surfing Slicks has managed to make it work. They have created a series of special liveries, each instantly recognisable. Working under official licences from BRM, Lotus, Vanwall, AAR, Tyrrell and others, there is no shortage of significant themes in the Surfing Slicks collection. A Hesketh Racing, James Hunt-themed seventies surfboard is of course the most fitting of homages to racing’s king of cool.

Custom-made

And it’s not just a paint job. These surfboards are created, following the style of the era they depict. They are built in the UK. In our case, they would probably come in handy as wall decorations, which – let’s face it – would look pretty cool as well. And they take up less space than cars.

Coincidentally, it’s not just the current fifty designs that make it hard to choose from. You can also order a fully custom-made design. That’s kind of cool when you are at a race weekend in, say, Estoril or Portimao in Portugal, where the seaside is just on the other side of the track.

Depending on the design, these boards cost around 3000 to 3500 GBP (3480 – 4061 euros/US dollars). More on surfingslicks.com
