This 1990 Citro\u00ebn ZX Rallye Raid participated in three Dakar rallies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ZX was part of Citro\u00ebn\u2019s formidable assault on the world\u2019s hardest rally-raid; the Paris-Dakar rally. Conceived by Thierry Sabine as the ultimate test of resilience for man and machine \u2013 traditionally departing from Paris on New Year\u2019s Eve \u2013 the raid changed character when Jacky Ickx managed to persuade Porsche to take part. Porsche famously won in 1984 and 1986. The publicity of those wins \u2013 and the end of the Group B rally cars in 1986 \u2013 caught other manufacturers\u2019 attention. Guy Fr\u00e9quelin\u2019s troops developed the ZX Rallye Raid, which would build out a successful career with four victories between 1991 and 1996. These were anything but walk-overs for the French squad, as they were confronted by an equally ambitious Mitsubishi team. Incidentally, this was the only occasion between 1987 and 1991 when Vatanen didn\u2019t win the Pharaohs Rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just months later, early January 1991, C05 started its first Paris \u2013 Dakar, with Alain Ambrosino behind the wheel. Ambrosino was \u2013 since his days with Peugeot \u2013 the designated \u2018assistance rapide\u2019, running just behind the team leaders to help them if they ended up in trouble. On the second stage on the African continent, the four works Citro\u00ebns claimed 1-2-3-4 on the stage. It was anything but easy for Citro\u00ebn, with Waldegaard and Ickx having to abandon after car fires on the same stage. With a route covering 12,427 km (7721 miles), C05 \u2013 one of five works ZXs at the start \u2013 had Pierre Lartigue behind the wheel. Lartigue would become a triple winner with the ZX, but in 1992 with starting number 206, he came seventh. In 1993, Ambrosino drove C05 \u2013 now in Evo2 spec &#8211; to another Dakar finish, in seventh place once more. The 320hp, 2-litre turbo engine and the seven-speed transmission have all been overhauled, and many parts renewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citro\u00ebn \u2013 now part of the Stellantis consortium \u2013 has so far been reluctant to let go of these Dakar legends. Given its scarcity, an estimate of \u20ac475,000 to \u20ac525,000 ($519,000 &#8211; $574,000) shouldn\u2019t surprise.
