Phillip Island in Australia is already one of the most scenic tracks in the world. The Classic Festival of Motorsport added a selection of the most beautiful race cars to the mix.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under its official name \u2018the Phillip Island Classic \u2013 Festival of Motorsport\u2019, the Classic brought an impressive selection of race cars to the fabled Australian circuit. Six Formula 1s came over from Europe for the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surtees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Among them was the Surtees TS16, campaigned in 1974 and 1975. Belgian owner Marc Devis showed the car that was driven in period by the likes of Derek Bell, John Watson, Jochen Mass and Jean-Pierre Jabouille. A Shadow DN8, driven to a podium finish in the Italian Grand Prix in 1977 by Alan Jones, was a crowd-pleaser at Phillip Island, as was the Beatrice with which Jones drove his last races in F1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bathurst heroes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Other categories saw Formula Fords, touring cars, Group C prototypes, sports cars and Australian V8 Supercars in action. The Phillip Island Classic<\/a> also has a regularity event, in contrast to events like the Goodwood Revival, where it\u2019s mostly about flat-out racing. Seeing the Nissan Skylines line up against the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, BMW M3 and the Holden Commodore brought back memories of epic battles at Bathurst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steven Richards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 34th Phillip Island Classic saw three days of action, with over 500 entrants bringing historic race cars to the island. With Greg Murphy and Nissan driver Steven Richards, there were legendary drivers at hand as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
