The father-son duo of five-time Le Mans winner Emanuele and Goffredo Pirro will pilot the JOTA Sport-run car at the 2024 Goodwood Revival, on for this weekend.
Japan’s Team Ikuzawa and American visual artist, Daniel Arsham, have teamed up to create a one-off livery for the 2024 Goodwood Revival. The bespoke red and white livery runs on a Porsche 904, owned and run by JOTA Sport and its owner, David Clark.
Porsche 906
The livery underscores the relationship both Team Ikuzawa and Arsham have with Porsche. The outfit’s founder, Tetsu Ikuzawa, was the first Porsche factory driver from Japan. Alongside an unexpected victory at the 1967 Japan Grand Prix with a privately-entered Porsche 906, Ikuzawa was the first Japanese driver to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Zuffenhausen carmaker in 1980. Ikuzawa made his Porsche LM24 debut alongside Ralf Stommelen and Axel Plankenhorn in a Group 5 Porsche 935 K3 run by Kremer Racing.
Red and white
A life-long Porsche enthusiast, Arsham has collaborated with the brand since 2019 and his contemporary art works are renowned for their innovative use of varying materials, and his installations’ exploration of themes like time, decay, and archaeology.
The Porsche 904’s Ikuzawa/Arsham livery draws on the Japanese-themed red and white of the original Team Ikuzawa of the 1980s, and incorporates elements of the lunar phase – a leitmotif of Arsham’s early work – and the sun, a central theme of identity for Tetsu Ikuzawa.
Pirro family
The car will be driven in the Goodwood Revival’s RAC TT Celebration by Emanuele Pirro who claimed five outright wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Audi in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, and 2007. The Italian’s son, Goffredo, will share driving duties with him.
Joining Pirro at the event are fellow Audi Le Mans winners Tom Kristensen (nine wins), André Lotterer (three wins), Marcel Fässler (three wins) and our columnist Steve Soper in a Mini.
Merchandise
Team Ikuzawa and Arsham will also launch a capsule collection of clothing and merchandise at the event. The line ties together Japanese motorsport culture and the vintage British spirit of the Goodwood Revival.
The 2024 Goodwood Revival runs from Friday, September 06 to Sunday, September 08. You can follow the action here.
