Spa Six Hours: Thunder in the forest
The forests around the daunting Eau Rouge curve will resonate to the sound of powerful V8s once more. The Masters Historic Racing series settles down at the magic Spa circuit in Belgium, with the six hours race the main event this weekend.
Despite travel conditions still suffering from the you-know-what thing, Spa Six Hours has once more assembled a strong field for this weekend’s race at the legendary Belgian track. The main event on Saturday, the six-hour race, sees racers plunge into the darkness. As usual, the Ford GT40 is the preferred weapon for those who have their eyes set on victory. No less than eleven GT40s appear on the provisional entry form, many of them will battle in close formation for the race win.
Dry… or not?
With the long uphill straights, horsepower is critical at Spa. Leaving the more agile (lightweight) Jaguar E-Types already at a disadvantage… in the dry. At Spa, this is never a given and weather forecasts predict plenty of rain this weekend in the Ardennes.
Next to the main event, the Formula 1s battling it out in two races for the Masters Historic series are a reason as well to come to Spa. A healthy amount of Lotus F1s appear on the grid – 77, 81, 91, 91 – among the Tyrrell 011, Williams FW 07C, McLaren M23 and the exotic Alfa Romeo 182 Thomas Steinke will enter.
Endurance Legends
Masters Endurance Legends once more presents a well-filled grid with recent prototypes and GT cars. Look out for Xavier Micheron in the Riley and Scott Mk3C, Shaun Lynn in the Peugeot 908 and the always fast Marco Werner in the Lotus LMP2 B12/80.
