For a full house once more, the Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring promises once more to be Germany’s leading historic racing event. This weekend will see plenty of action.

The AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix sees its 49th running this weekend. On Friday (August 12th) there is a trackday on the Nordschleife, but apart from that all the action takes place on the Grand Prix layout. A ticket automatically grants access to the paddock as well, where there is plenty to be seen.

DTM and DRM

The sheer volume of cars on track is unseen. The Oldtimer GP reunites all the best from past racing series, but the reason you really want to be here is this: here you can see the best of German racing once more in action. Fire spitting Capris and 935 from the DRM era, the very popular DTM Classic Cup, Interseries prototypes. This is a country that has always given motorsport the most spectacular of interpretations.

Von Trips

Of course, Germany has given us a plethora of top drivers as well. Many of them you will see in action this weekend, but the Oldtimer GP has also opted to create a homage to Wolfgang von Trips with the Sharknose Revival, the sleek Ferrari 156 with which the German count was poised to take the Formula 1 world title in 1961, only for him to crash with fatal consequences at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

Formula 2

Masters Historic Racing brings plenty of Formula 1, GT and modern Endurace Racing Legends series to the Ring. Next to that, the German Ferrari club has its own series, there is the Formula Junior Lurani Trophy, and the pre-war Vintage Sportscar Trophy. HGPCA brings us Formula 1 cars up to 1965 and the HSCC Formula 2 field is growing ever bigger.

On Saturday, the evening race for GTs up to 1965 guarantees an almost Le Mans-like atmosphere. In the old paddock, the rally cars from the ‘slowly sideways’ program assemble. In short, a weekend not to be missed. A weekend ticket costs 79 euros, Friday entry is 29 euros, Saturday entry costs 59 euros and admission on Sunday is 39 euros. For that price, you can enter the grandstands and the paddock.
